“for such a time as this…”
The first time I heard that phrase, it was in Sunday School. The story was about Esther, one of the few female characters in the Bible. She’d found favor with the Persian King, risked her own life, and rescued her people from death.
Fun fact. She was a Jewish woman and was taken into marriage with a Gentile. A major no-no in her culture and I can just imagine that in this pivotal moment, there were more than a few neighborhood gossip folk focused on the scandal more than the bigger mission in play.
But none-the-less…
She was at the right place at the right time, for such a time as this.
Lots of smart people around the Internet agree … we are living in a unique time period of civilization.
We’re distracted by noise and irrelevant details, meanwhile ginormous changes are happening right in plain sight.
The Dandelion Report is my response to a deep desire I have to share - in a curated way - the realities I believe we need to be paying more attention to in this age.
Because the truth is, you - like Esther - are alive right now for such a time as this. The influence you have - whether in your own home, neighborhood, community, business … you are here for a reason and a unique mission during this incredible time in human history.
The more that we all - collectively - lift our heads away from the nuisance of petty issues and focus on the most important meaningful lessons this life and world have to offer, the more we’ll continue to thrive, find meaning, and make the most of the time we have.
About The Dandelion Report
There is a fundamental (giant) shift in our world. A lot of issues are coming to a head at once, and they are all - in their own right - civilization changing type issues.
Our civilization cannot survive indefinitely like it is right now. There is an end game to this never-ending drive for technological innovation and mining the planet and all its resources.
We are headed for collapse.
Fast (using this word in the context of collapse does not mean in the next 4 weeks - we're talking over the next 30-50 years).
All great civilizations have fallen and ours is no exception. We're a global community now, even though we're still in our tribes and factions.
The Dandelion Report is going to be broken up into three sections of curated content, thoughtful (or humorous) quotes, and hot takes.
The Natural World (climate change + its impacts on society)
The Economic World (finance + business)
The World Of The Mind (how to be the kind of person who thrives in chaos and still can be happy and find meaning)
The plan is to publish twice a month. Readership, engagement, and response will drive the frequency of mailing, but for now, 2x a month is the goal!
Who Am I And Why Me?
Great question. No idea.
I kid (but only sorta).
I am nobody special. In fact, if you take a quick look at my life you will see that I’ve had great success and great failure both.
Writing since 2007, I started out in the online space as a mildly depressed stay-at-home mom of three children, using a blog to find meaning in very long days at home with kids.
It was in this no-name space that I began to find my voice, and my passion for telling stories and breaking down difficult topics into understandable bites.
From there, I came onto the business scene (in the midst of what would be yet another personal drama), and I found myself growing a multi-million dollar empire accidentally.
Within 8 years, I had amassed millions of dollars, thousands of customers, and a platform of readers and followers who decided they liked my writing enough to keep paying attention.
In 2020, I once again found myself in a strange leadership position, overseeing a community of people through the harrowing 12 months of covid, an election, and all the crazy events that kicked off this decade. Again, I used my insane appetite for information and my writing to curate the best information I could (with mild editorials thrown in for good measure) with daily posts.
Much of what I will write will simply be curated content from experts. Because I am not an expert in climate, in collapse, in economics, epidemiology, or many of the issues I want to talk about here.
But I am an expert in finding helpful, good quality, trustworthy information. I am an expert in business. I have a degree in clinical psychology and a lifetime of personal crises enough to qualify for an honorary degree in the fuckery of surviving plaguing anxiety, shame, and other such fun emotions.
As always, I welcome debate, dissent, and disagreement, and expect nothing less here.
Who The Dandelion Report Is For
This newsletter is for three types of people.
Someone who feels the energy shift in our world and understands there’s something bigger coming (soon).
Someone who is a leader (in business or community) that wants to impact people, help them prepare and thrive in changing times.
Someone who likes to be in the know. Even if that “know” isn’t pleasant.
I do believe that what we focus on grows, and so focusing on that which is positive and happy and inspiring tends to uplift people.
And yet, it's not a "but" but an "and" - there is a LOT of suffering and pain in this world. A lot of darkness. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give people is to walk straight into that pain and say, "I'm here. Me too. You're not alone."
That said, The Dandelion Report is not just a digest of doom & gloom. I am always looking for the light switch in a dark room. Trying to give people permission to be themselves, to face their demons, prepare for what is rather than what could be.
But in order to find the light switch in the dark room, you have to enter the dark places.
“I Gotta Ask… What’s With The Name?”
Have you ever seen a dandelion growing happily in a 1millimeter space between two sidewalk sections in a concrete city?
Dandelions are maddening hardy little weeds that seem to thrive no matter what you do. They can fertilize without pollinators, grow insanely long taproots, reduce competition with other plants, and survive in all kinds of climates.
They are unyielding.
And they spread.
We as creators and entrepreneurs need to be like the dandelion. We may be uprooted in the coming years, but will not yield to the terror and chaos coming in our world.
The word Dandelion simply means… The Lion’s Tooth (due to its serrated edges on it’s green leaves).
We could all use a little lion’s tooth in our lives and businesses.
And with that commitment, we can offer it to others as well.
xx Julie
“… in order to find the light switch in the dark room, you have to enter the dark places.”
This is a hard lesson to learn, and when you do, it empowers you to move through it and grow from it.
One of the songs that got me through the dark times in the early stages of my cancer diagnosis is Gajumaru by Yaima:

So good to have you back in my inbox, Julie!
